We are not far from Whitby, on the North Yorkshire Coast, nestled in protected woodland, between the moors and the sea. Aptly named Valley View, our site is a wildlife haven, an ecological microcosm, and a tranquil and beautiful place to stay. The moment we saw Valley View we knew it was the perfect place for yoga retreats in North Yorkshire.

I don’t usually do reviews, but this place was so outstanding that in this case I feel I should. My sister and I had a... personalised yoga retreat with some meals. This is an oasis of peace in a beautiful setting and we were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The jewel in the crown is the outstanding standard of the yoga classes we received, perfectly tailored to suit our individual different requirements. I have been doing yoga for quite a while yet I learnt new things. The food we had was also very good.I can’t say enough about this place, it’s very special indeed.read more
Yoga.Lorraine is an excellent teacher.Kindcaring and a good listener. Yoga Studio is beautifully designed. Light... and airy surrounded by woodland and wildlife.Food was delicious, tasty and well cooked and plentiful.Lots of lovely organic fresh vegetables from the garden.Served with lovely spices and fresh herbs. Acommodation we we're very comfortable in the garden room and had easy access to dining room and all amenities. We left the retreat feeling loved rested relaxed and well fed. We would love to go again.read more
Giving praise where it’s due, I have an abundance to offer here. My friend and I had a 3 night stay in the main house... accommodation, tailored specifically with an Ayurvedic detox or ‘Ama Pachana’ that included all meals, Ayurvedic consultations and some yoga classes by Lorraine, our host.Ayurvedic coach, yoga teacher and much more, Lorraine consulted with each of us to assess our Ayurvedic ‘type’ to ensure we each received the right foods and advice during our stay.With tasty organic produce tended and grown right there in the garden by Mark and Lorraine (the Dream Team), she lovingly prepared, cooked and presented all our meals during our stay. Each mealtime was educational, as well as a culinary delight. One morning we also received a ‘how to make ghee’ and ‘Kitcharee’ cooking lesson, which was fun and interactive…another thoughtful touch. (it also helped me remember how to make it)I highly recommend a stay in this lovely rural setting that is only a 5 min drive or 30 min walk from Whitby. Whether you want a get away from it all escape in a woodland setting, an Ayurvedic food detox, excellent yoga teacher and facilities or a great base for surrounding the North Yorkshire Moors, then I can’t recommend this place enough.I can’t leave without a specific mention to green fingered Mark who helps it all happen, lovely Rosie the Cockador who liked her tummy tickling and the plethora of animals (all with ace names) who help create the wonderful ambiance of the place.read more
Loved our yoga retreat, Loraine couldn’t have done enough to make us free more welcome relaxed, nourished and feed... body, mind and soul. Our log cabins where perfect. Cosy, super clean and had all we needed. A real hide away get away.Totally recommend Yoga and Spice if you want to get way for the craziness of life and be almost nature. Great yoga classes with Loraine. I felt safe and happy to try yoga new postures with Lorraine’s expert knowledge and experience.We’ll definitely be back and would be happy to come on my own sometime soon.read more
My friend and I had an amazing three night stay at Valley View. We where so well looked after and the food was... amazing. We had some great yoga sessions in one of the best yoga studios I have been in. The place is peaceful, quiet and relaxing. We loved the cold water dip in the waterfall and our mindful walk through the glacial valley. We would both highly recommend valley view and we loved our retreat away as are both busy mums.read more
We can't say enough good things about our time at Yoga and Spice. Having started yoga online three months ago, our... practice has gained so much from our 4 day stay under Lorraine's patient, expert and fascinating guidance. Lorraine tailored our yoga sessions perfectly to our level of experience and ability, also giving us an introduction to different aspects and styles of yoga. Really recommend trying the aerial yoga for a careful and fun way into inversions. We stayed in a lovely, peaceful woodland log cabin on a half-board basis; the breakfasts and dinners were fresh, healthy and delicious. The location is perfect for setting out onto walks on the Cleveland Way and bike rides along the Cinder Track and local lanes. All in all, a revitalising and regenerative holiday; now planning our next trip to Valley View!read more
I typically am not one to write reviews, but this is worthy! I stayed in one of the lovely log cabins for 3 days but... wish I could have stayed longer! The cabin was spotless, cosy, and the shower was fantastic. What a special place set in leafy woodland close to a stream and positioned perfectly for wonderful walks to and around Whitby. The cabins have been built very sensitively, with conservation in mind, and are run by two special people: Lorraine and Mark. They took great pride and care in making sure my stay was just what I needed: I had meals tailored to my individual needs (vegan) which were absolutely fantastic, including home-grown organic veggies (I have come away with new amazing recipes which I have been trying myself at home!). Various walking routes and options were willingly shared, which were absolutely spot-on. Yoga sessions were also tailored to my requirements, and I had a go at aerial yoga too in the fantastic spacious new-build yoga cabin which was wonderful! I must say that Lorraine is extremely modest and not one to blow her own trumpet, but she also is skilled in Ayurveda (and no doubt many other things!) and once I realised this I booked a consultation with her, which has provided valuable insights into my dietary needs and routes to better wellbeing. I would definitely recommend, from anyone just needing a quiet retreat and a walking base, through to those interested in deepening their yoga practice and sampling some fantastic home-cooked food.
